A Christian vampire novel?
I loved the idea. So when I picked up Field of Blood, I had high expectations. Plus I'd heard about Eric Wilson and wanted to try one of his books.
My first impression was how talented Wilson is as an author. You know when you start reading a book and realize the author is bright? That's what I thought. But unfortunately Wilson might be a little too bright for me as I found the novel difficult to follow.
There are four sections to FOB and I had a hard time getting through the first section. The narrative shifted back and forth between three or four settings and I couldn't get a grip on what was going on in any of them. At that point the only reason I slogged on was because I'd committed to writing a review in exchange for a free book from the publisher.
Did I like it? Yes. Did I like it enough to read the next book in the trilogy? No.
Will I try another Eric Wilson novel. Yes, I see the talent and I think this particular story just might not be a fit for me.
